The Friday June 12 Gardening with Class School Garden Workshop is being held on the Bluegrass Community and Technical College campus in the Oswald Building auditorium (Rm. 230) which is located at  500 Cooper Dr

 

Cost:                                    Free to all participants includes lunch

 

Teacher stipend:         The first 30 teachers to register will be given a $50 stipend for attendance. This workshop is eligible for professional development credit.

 

Description:                    This workshop is designed for school garden teams of 2-4 people. Teams are encouraged to include at least one teacher and can also include parents, student, volunteers, school administrators, or other personnel. All participants will receive a complimentary lunch and a folder of school garden information. Each school will receive a copy of Edible School Yards by Alice Waters and other resource materials.

 

Workshop Goals 

Participants will:

·         Share ideas for designing and using educational school gardens

·         Learn basic gardening skills

·         Learn tips for effective outdoor classroom management

·         Gain understanding of how gardens enhance curriculum-aligned learning

·         Understand the importance of teamwork to start and sustain a school garden

·         Find out how to get more resources for successful school gardens

·         Begin to plan their school garden program

School Garden Start-up Kit Award

Fifteen(15) schools will be awarded a School Garden Start-up Kit valued at $400. This Kit will include garden tools, seeds, plants, materials for raised beds, garden cart, books and other resource material designed to start or expand your garden this year!. The award will be based upon completion of an application, commitment to begin a garden in 2009, a school site visit and final selection by Bluegrass School Garden Network awards committee.
